1st European Conference JOIN-TRANS 2010

Comprehensive exchange of experience of the European welding technologists in railroading at the JOIN-TRANS 2010

Through the new standard EN 15085 a mandatory European set of regulations for the approval of companies for welding on rail vehicles including the assistance on welding engineering and construction for the design of rail vehicles has been developed.   

In order to exchange the first experience made with the application of the standard EN 15085 and to support the transfer of knowledge for joining and repairing as well as designing in rail vehicle construction the responsible welding coordinators, designers and those responsible for the quality met from 28 to 29 April 2010 on the occasion of the 1st European conference "Joining and Construction of Railway Vehicles“, the JOIN-TRANS 2010, in Halle (Saale) for the first time.

The topics of the conference beside of the harmonized application and interpretation of the EN 15085ff was the use of the internet register for welding on rail vehicles, the further developed register as the most important tool of the responsible welding coordinators as well as new technologies and designs of rail vehicle construction.

Having more than 70 participants from 13 countries and an exceptionally positive feedback the 1st European conference JOIN-TRANS 2010 was a further milestone for the European welding technologists in railroading to consolidate the process on a European level. Due to the comprehensive exchange of experience of the national safety agencies and the manufacturer certification boards as well as of the representatives of the rail vehicle manufacturers and the operators from more than 10 European nations the JOIN-TRANS could set up itself as a mouthpiece for the Committee for Welding of Railway Vehicles founded at the end of 2009.
